My First Franken!

So I finally jumped on the Franken bandwagon. I started with a shitty old polish in a mini bottle and cleaned it out with acetone. It actually took quite a while to get it all the way clean since I couldn't really reach the inside. Using a pipe cleaner really helped get the polish gunk off the inside of the bottle.

I used a total of 14 polishes, kind of a ton lol. I wanted to make coral, but didn't want to start with a coral base. It felt like cheating :P.

Pretty gold shimmer

Pretty!

See the glass flecks?

Then I crackled them just for fun!

Here is a cellphone pics that shows the more orangey side.

Like it? Like to franken?

Longwearing Lip Color

In my quest to find a lip color that actually lasts, I have tried quite a few. When it's a normal lip stick or a gloss, it isn't so bad to reapply it. But sometimes I want one that I won't have to worry about touching up! I have tried:

MaxFactor Lipfinity (good but not available in the states anymore)

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain (fun to apply, didn't last)
Covergirl Outlast Double Lipshine (didn't last at all and came off really ugly)
Covergirl Outlast Lipcolor
AAhhhh finally! This is the one you want! I used my Covergirl Outlast Lipcolor in Soft Pink Satin #800 and it was so fabulous! Let the pics do the talking!

Time passed 0:00 - Here it is at the very beginning, without the lip balm topcoat that comes with it.

Time passed 0:00 - At the beginning after the top coat, really feels nice now.

Time passed 0:00 - Outdoors with top coat

Time passed 0:30 - And after eating macaroni trying to eat normal

Time passed 1:35 - Still fab

Time passed 4:10 - Still great

Time passed 5:30 - After a shower, almost freaking flawless

Time passed 5:30 - Reapplied top coat for the first time

Time passed 9:00 - The color is a little faded, which makes the imperfections in application more obvious. I still think it looks freaking awesome.

Time passed 18:25 - I went to bed with it on because it still looked good and I wanted to time test it. This is how I woke up.

Time passed 19:00 -  Overall look before school, still wearing it. Wow!

Time passed 21:30 - This is after eating 3-4 meals, showering, sleeping, brushing teeth, everything. It honestly didn't look that bad, but it was faded and coming off a bit on the inner lip which you can see int he pic below.

Time passed 21:30 - Pic to show the wear on the inner part before I finally took it off.

There you have it ladies. I'd say this was pretty much perfect after 20 hours of wear and normal daily activity. Freaking amazing right?

This was easy to apply with the lipgloss style wand. Because it is long wearing and is kind of a lip stain, you have to be really careful not to mess it up and paint out of the lines. It also dries very quickly, so you need to paint each lip quickly. If you want to go back over it I feel like that's when you can see the thicker areas and it doesn't always look even. You're not supposed to rub your lips together like you would after applying a traditional lipstick. You apply to one lip, then the other, and hold your mouth open for about 30 seconds more or until they're totally dry. Then apply the top coat, which adds moisture to it like a regular lipstick and is supposed to help it stay on.

Let me know what kind of long wearing lip color you have tried and what you liked and didn't like!!

This product was purchased by me and reviewed just for you!

Facebook WHAT?

So I was looking at my followers, and I have almost 100 more Facebook followers than blog followers. I would think it would be the other way around. What WHAT? lol

So how does this work ladies, you just see me on FB but don't follow me to my blog? You post here too but aren't following and just follow my FB? I'm so confused haha!

Anyone else have more FB followers than GFC blog followers, or am I backwards?

Mahoganie Crackle

China Glaze Mahoganie was one of my first lemmings once I started to get more serious about polish. I love this baby! Mahoganie is a chocolate brown jelly with holo glitter and different shades of brown shimmer. I don't have a pic of how awesome this glitter is, but it's fab. It's just blingy enough from the holo without being crazy.

 Sunlight

Then I thought pink crackle (ChG Broken Hearted) would go cute on it. Pink and brown, right? I still haven't figured out the magic of crackles, because this looks like crap. I hate how it covers up so much of the brown.

I think the crackle ruined it. What do you think?

EOTD: Ulta Eyeshadow Quad

This is an eyeshadow quad I got from Ulta in one of those deals I blogged about here. It's okay. I find they aren't very pigmented. Honestly I'm finding eyeshadow posts in general difficult because it never shows up as much in the pictures as it does in person. It isn't as defined in the pictures.

I used all four colors in this look. The Brown Sugar on the outer corner, Silk overall blending that brown in, seashell in a small swathe above the brown, and Stardust kind of filling in my lower lid, leaving Silk up higher still.

Overall look

Fossil Fuels in Your Makeup?

I have been thinking about this issue lately when all of a sudden it came to my attention that loads of things I use contain petroleum, and petroleum is a fossil fuel. It's also what we make gasoline from, so using is contributes to the rise in gas prices, the depletion of petroleum and need to find a new source of car fuel, and it's just creepy that I'm putting a gasoline ingredient on my body sometimes. I'm a super hippie and I do what I can to help the environment. Yes, I do use gasoline. I have to drive, and I'm okay with that. I have a Prius though ;). I do, however, think practices that negatively effect the environment should be limited where possible. When it comes to my makeup, I think I can live without petroleum.
What do you think ladies? Do you care that you're using fossil fuels and non-renewable resources in your makeup?

If you think of plain old petroleum jelly that comes in the little tub, you use that as a moisturizer. So I would think in makeup it is mostly used as a moisturizer. Some alternatives that makeup companies can and do sometimes use are parabens, bees wax, lanolin, and glycerine. Some people prefer to stay away from parabens because they are mostly synthetic, but in my opinion so many things are now. I would rather have a safe synthetic ingredient than a fossil fuel. Other ingredients derived from petroleum are petrolatum and mineral oil. Even plastic is made from petroleum, though that's hard to get away from considering makeup packaging.

Here are some products you might use that can contain petroleum: Most Chapstick products, Carmex, CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine, MAC Lip Conditioner, Vaseline, Most Covergirl Mascaras, Aveeno lotions, Dove lotions

Here are some that do not contain petroleum: NYX Lipstick, Yes To products (Carrots, Tomatoes, etc), Burts Bees, EOS, Covergirl Natureluxe Gloss Balm, Chapstick Naturals, CO Bigelow Mentha Organics, MAC Lipsticks, Many Loreal Lipsticks, Many Tarte products, Covergirl Natureluxe Mascara

I'm sure there are many others, but it's quite difficult to find ingredients online and most ingredients of the things I use were on the box I threw away. If you know of anymore to add to the lists let me know!!

Note that I wrote this all myself from research on the internet. I am so not an expert and don't claim that any of this is 100% true and accurate, just that it is to the best of my knowledge. I might have a lipstick from a brand that doesn't contain petroleum, so I add it to the list, but yours in a different shade does.

Splatter Pedi!

Going with the splatter craze The PolishAholic started, I tried a splatter pedi! And going with Lindsay's advice I used a small capri-sun straw.
I used NOPI Virtuous Violet as a base color, ChG Peachy Keen, Borghese Paradiso Pink, and Zoya Stacy.

Here is Virtuous Violet. This is my very first true matte! It looks gorgeous and sparkly!!

Here is my work space. I made a huge mess.

FYI it is REALLY hard to reach your toes with a little straw. Splatter pedi - not the best idea I ever had :P.

Messy messy!!

And here are some toe close ups for you. It was really fun!

Have you tried a splatter manicure yet? My friend Sarah did and it was awesome! Let me know if you like my splattercure and if you've tried it yet or want to :P.
