What's Your Cuticle Care?

Taking picture all up close and person like for nail polish swatches has really made me notice my cuticles. I feel like they're okay, but not great. I want gorgeous cuticles and surrounding skin :D!
Currently I use a J.R. Watkin's Hand and Cuticle Salve. It's a medium/soft vaseline type product in a silver tin.I used to have a Burt's Bees one, which I only heard was good after I gave it away to a man at a homeless shelter lol. So I never really got to try that one. I also put lotion on after my cuticle salve, to rub over my hands and everything. Lately I've been using Bath & Body Works Sun Ripened Raspberry or Victoria Secret's Coconut Passion.
I also use my metal cuticle tool I got from Sally's to push back my cuticles and get some of the dead skin from underneath. I finally found a cheap pair of cuticle nippers at Ross for about $4, as I can't seem to find them cheaper than maybe $12 in normal stores. I go by the rule: if it hurts, it's alive, so don't take it. If it doesn't hurt, it's dead and it needs to come off.

What do you use? Do you use anything at all? I really want to try something different for me and see if I notice anything fabulous. What I have in mind that I'd like to try is Solid Gold Cuticle Oil Gel from Qtica or maybe a Sally Hansen Cuticle Pen because they look so easy.

  4. Lush Lemony FLutter is my FAVORITE for dry spots. cuticles, fingers, hands, knees, elbows, lips. It smells amazing and really cures the dryness. As for hand lotions I stay away from anything scented as I am usually allergic to it and most scented lotions from Bath and Body works contain alcohol which actually dries your skin! How ridiculous! I love curel and gloves in a bottle. The gloves in a bottle works fantastic for me because it creates a layer on your hands and doesnt rub off onto anything. My mom does a lot of stitching work and she found this stuff is awesome because it doesnt come off on her expensive silk fabrics. I use it because I do a lot of paper artwork.

  5. I love Lush Lemony Flutter too. In french it's called Doigts de Fée (which means something like Fairy's fingers) and that exactly what that product does ;)

  6. I don't take care of my cuticles like I should. When I do use something I either use the Burt's Bees Lemon Cuticle stuff or olive oil with a drop of lavender essential oil. My cuticles are by no means picture perfect yet, but after I started doing my nails on a regular basis and they started getting crappy, they have definitely improved! Imagine if I took care of them regularly!

  7. I rarely do anything to my cuticles. Besides an occasional hang nail, I think they are pretty good, (Except my right thumb for some reason, I CONSTANTLY have to push that one back.) When I take off my polish (straight acetone), about once a week I put cuticle oil on them and let them sit for about 10 minutes, then I wash my hands with a good moisturizing soap, for at least 2-3 minutes. I really only apply lotion once a day. I use Aveeno Intense Relief Overnight Cream.

  8. Patricia - I couldn't find that for sale anywhere online to kind of check it out. Is it something older? Where can you buy it? And if you like using pure acetone because it's good minus the damage to your skin, try Zoya Remove+ :D.

You ladies make Lush Lemony Flutter sound so nice. I wish they had other scents too though, because lemon doesn't really excite me. The cheapest I found online was $12.95, so it isn't cheap. I'm curious to know if it's really worth it!

Jen - What kind of cuticle oil do you use? I think using lotion every day helps. I really need to start doing that...

  9. it's hard to rememberto put on lotion, thats why it is on my nightstand and I knock it over evertime I go to turn my lamp off...without fail. :)
I WAS using some no name got for Christmas 2-3 years ago oil, but China Glaze came out with their peppermint oil around Christmas last year. It is in a bottle that looks like the polish. I like the minty smell. In their everyday line, they DO have an orange oil. I just like the peppermint better. If I find some I will pick it up for you. :D

  10. Lemony Flutter really *IS* worth it, and a little goes a LONG way. I also LOVE Nfu Oh's Cuticle remover.

I use the cuticle remover 1-2 times a week and use a cuticle pusher with it to get rid of all the dead part, use a sugar scrub about every day, every other day. Use Lemony Flutter nightly and after using the cuticle remover. I also use lotion multiple times thru out the day (have for years -- way before I started taking care of my nails/cuticles), as well as try and put on Burt Bee's Cuticle Butter once through out the day when I'm out and about since I carry a tin of it in my purse.

It took a bit, but I'm happy with my cuticles at this point.

  11. The first thing you can do is applying a nail growth activator on a daily basis. This will help enhance nail growth.
