I ♥ My Sailor Necklace

Introducing my love of arts and crafts, including jewelry making.

My boyfriend Jeremy is in the Navy. I moved 600 miles from the town where I was born and raised, changed colleges and am having to go at least an extra year, left behind my friends and family, and committed myself to the military life with him. With having a long distance relationship (he was in Virginia, where we now live, and I'm from Tennessee) and his not being able to move because of the military I felt like it was all or nothing, go for it completely or just part ways, so I took the jump and it was freaking amazing. The day I agreed to actually meet him in person (we met online), he promised me I wouldn't regret it. And baby, I didn't :).

He's on deployment right now, overseas in Bahrain for about 6 months (usually longer). I miss him every day and am always looking for ways to make things a little easier. Making this necklace was one way to help me feel closer to him while he's gone.

This is a front closure toggle clasp necklace with a silver key pendant. Two pieces of chain are hanging from the necklace beside the key in a charm bracelet style. I added M for Megan, J for Jeremy, a ship wheel, an anchor with rope, a red star, and a blue tear drop.

I got the inspiration from Key Element Jewelry, who makes wonderful jewelry incorporating keys. Her pieces look much more professional than mine, she has a much wider range of charms available, etc, etc, but I wanted to make my own. Here is how it looks actually being worn.
I am so happy with my creation and totally love it! So I've introduced one of my other passions, what do you think?

Oh, and I totally have a sailor pig = awesome!

  3. Thanks M! I'm so proud of it! I want to wear it every day! I'm such a jewelry fiend though I can't make myself wear just one thing lol. And I just got some gorgeous pearls from him which I'm about to blog about as well.

Sarah - I know! It sounds absolutely nuts to other people while you're right in the middle of it. Honestly, it was totally nuts haha! But it turned out amazing!

Your story makes me sad. I whine about being 200 miles away from my boyfriend. I need to take the plunge.

  6. Jen - Yea we're about 6,500 miles away from each other right now lol. We do live together normally though, which is the plunge I took in moving :D. So when he comes home finally it will be great again!

    Jeanie - Exactly!

  8. Love it! You are so creative Megan!

I met hubby online too and ended up moving to another country because of him! But first we had long-distance relationship for 2,5 years and that meant living in different countries. Still happy together and we are celebrating our 10 years wedding anniversary at the end of April :)
