DIY Natural Eye Makeup Remover

So I heard someone say they use coconut oil as makeup remover and it sounded like a good idea! Coconut oil is a 4 on the comedogenic rating list, so it didn't seem like a good idea to use it on my whole face. But around my eyes, the extra moisture sounded like a great idea.

I made a little comparison video for you guys and came up with a very simple two ingredient recipe. You can choose any essential oils you like for the second ingredient. I chose frankincense because it can help with wrinkles and no eye cream I've ever used has actually helped with that. We'll see how it does with my wrinkles, but it's seriously great at removing makeup. I just made some for my Mother-in-law and I added a little lavender because it's great for skin.

Have you tried making an all natural makeup remover? How did it go? Which essential oils would you add?

Working Up to Drama

I'm usually nervous when it comes to more dramatic makeup. I never really line my lower lash line or put mascara on my lower lashes. This is an example of a grey smokey eye I did before that is much more toned down. We were going out the other night and I decided to dramatize it a bit.

I used dark grey liquid liner, and dark grey eyeshadow over that to smudge it out. I put mascara on all my lashes. I was worried it would be too much, but I like it!

You can see the liner more in this photo. It is more defined on the outer corner of the eye.

Heres the outfit with the look. I love those tights lol.

Edit: I got my first really mean comments on my blog today. I was just letting you ladies know so that all the other comments made sense. I deleted the worst ones in attempt to remove the negativity.

Gel Liner in a Tube

Noticed the gel liner craze, with the little pot and the eyeliner brush? Well Tarte Aqua-Gel Eyeliner is like that, but in a normal eyeliner twist tube. Here is what the tube looks like, except mine is cooler cause it's the TrueBlood version :D.
Here is the Tarte website on it. I love how it's made with some natural ingredients and free of petroleum products!
Now I'm not that great at applying things like this, so try not to take this too specifically lol. Whatever imperfections you have while applying it are easily smoothed out when you put your eyeshadow on. What I can tell you is that it's awesome. It glides on like a liquid liner, but it's more firm like the gel liner. It's better because it's in stick form so you can just twist it up and you don't need a brush. It's long lasting, smudge proof, and doesn't flake off.

See! You can't even tell I messed up now! This liner is black black, blacker than the website pics. If it looks a little grayed out here it's because I put gray eyeshadow over it :).

Here is the finished eye. Bold and awesome!

Brown Eyeshadow and Liquid Liner

Here is my eye of the day - brown, natural, but with more bold liner
I used Too Faced Liquif Eye to make Tarte Werewolf (dark brown) into a liquid liner. I lined my upper lash line and the outer corner on the bottom.

I smudged MAC Swiss Chocolate (autumn brown) along the lash line and about half way up the lid.

Then I finished off the top of the lid, above the brown, with Urban Decay Polyester Bride (ivory shimmer).

The total look wearing MAC Gem of Roses on my lips.

Blue Liner with UD Ammo Palette

I love eyeshadow palettes! They're so versatile for really intricate club night makeup or a quick and easy before school look. I went with the latter.
I used a cheap blue eyeliner, Urban Decay Sin all over the lid, and Smog in the crease. I really need to work on my crease technique so I've been trying it more in a subtle way.

Then I used Urban Decay Shattered on the outer corner of my lower lid for a pop of color. What's so cool about this color is that it's a duochrome. It's super bright blue, but it flashes a greenish gold too.

Grey Smokey Eye

When I do my makeup, specifically my eye makeup, I like to match with my outfit. This was the shirt I was wearing that I was styling my makeup after.

Start with grey or black eyeliner. I know the usual thing is to do your eyelashes last, but I am so freaking bad about getting all over my newly finished eyeshadow. I usually do mine after the liner.

Then cover the whole lid with a lighter color, because your eyeliner will be darker. I used all my colors from the Tarte Trueblood palette. This is Tarte Fairy.

Then do a darker color along your upper lashline over the liner you already put on. Make it as dark and thick as you want, or do less if you're not into really intense eyes like me. Blend along the last line with a puffy brush. Sometimes I use my thin angled eyeliner brush to make the nice line, then dab just a tiny bit on the puffy brush to smudge it out and blend the liner. This shadow is Tarte Stake.

Just to add a little fun, and because I don't like to line my lower lashes with a dark color, I added some shimmery silver on the outer corner of my lower lashline. This is Tarte The True Death.

This is my finished look with MAC Gem of Roses as the lippie.

Vamp Glam

I am loving the Tarte Trueblood Palette! This time I tried out one of the tutorials that came with it: Vamp Glam

Telepath on the entire lid, after primer and liner

Fairy on the inner corner, blending upward and outward

V along the upper and lower lashline, including the inner corner of the eye. I did it thicker on the upper since I'm not used to wearing liner on the lower and didn't want to look like a ho lol.

Ok so the outfit isn't vamp glam, I was headed to school, but you know :P.

EOTD: First Day of School!

This is the first day of this semester, my last year of college, wahoo!!! Here is my look for the day:
Nothing too special, just me and what I like :).

I used my Urban Decay Ammo Palette that I got in a swap. I love it!!

I didn't take pics in stages, just the finished product.

I used brown Almay eyeliner and Rimmel Lash Flirt Mascara.

I added a little accent to the corner of my lower lash line with Mildew. It really doesn't show well in the pics but does in person.

I used Sin all over, with Smog along the lash line and thicker on the outer edge. Maui Wowie has a little glitter and a grungy browny greeny bronzey look to it, so I swiped a medium line of that above the Smog to add some fun.

I am loving my eyeshadow palettes lately! Anyone else have the Urban Decay Ammo Palette?

EOTD: At A Wedding

My boyfriend best friend got married yesterday! It was actually supposed to be today, but with the hurricane imminent (it's about to pass over us within a couple hours actually) they bumped it up a day. Here is what I wore and my overall look.
You'll want to read on if you're interested in eye makeup. I used mostly the TrueBlood Tarte palette, with one MAC and one Urban Decay from the Ammo palette.
Closeup of eye makeup. Here is what I did:

This is only the shadow primer from the Tarte for Trueblood palette. I like to put it up quite high, which is why I have my eyebrow in the pic so you can see. It goes pretty close. If you don't put it up high enough and your shadow goes over the edge of the primer it looks weird and doesn't blend right.

I used brown eyeliner from Almay, then covered the whole lid with a toned down brown neutral - Tarte Dusk.

Then I used a darker brown to accentuate my eyeliner and apply in the crease - MAC Swiss Chocolate. The eyeshadow does have a touch of red to the brown, but not as much as the pic. I'm really not good at the crease thing by the way. Feel free to offer tips lol.

The dress I wore was teal, brown, and burnt orange. So I used Tarte Charmer to fill in the space between my eyeliner and crease about 3/4 of the way in from the outer corner. The brush in the picture helps you see where I applied it.
Here is Charmer finished on both eyes.

I love to play with color, so I pulled a color from my dress to line about 1/3 of my lower lash line. I used Urban Decay Shattered from the Ammo palette.

Here is the finished eye, with Blinc Water-Resistant Mascara.

Here is my finished face right before the wedding.
